Newbury Bike Accident Victim Remembered

A teenage Newbury Park woman killed while bicycling on New Year’s Eve was remembered as an active water polo coach.

Sarah Galbawy, 19, was a  coach for the girls water polo team at Newbury Park High School.

An investigation by the Kern County Sheriff’s department revealed that Galbawy was traveling downhill when she lost control and struck a utility pole. She subsequently died of head injuries at Kern Medical Center.

In addition to being a student at Ventura College and coaching, Galbawy worked as a swim instructor and life guard at Cal Luthern University community pool.
