Deputy Shoots Two in Camarillo

February 6, 2012

A man and woman were shot late Friday night by police in Camarillo after allegedly hitting a sheriff’s deputy with car.

The deputy, who was assigned to the Camarillo substation, initiated a traffic stop at Yolanda and Rowland. Police say the driver did not immediately yield, but eventually stopped his vehicle at 400 block of Kino Street.

As the deputy approached the driver of the vehicle, police claim the driver put his vehicle in reverse and struck the deputy.

The moving vehicle caused bodily injury to the deputy and the deputy, fearing for his safety and further injury, fired his duty weapon at the driver, according to police.

Both the driver and a female passenger were wounded by the gunfire. The man and woman, and the deputy, were taken to a local hospital.

No arrests have been made, although the investigation is ongoing.

The names of the people involved in the incident have not been released.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
