County to Implement Cellphone Tower Regulations

February 8, 2012

The Ventura County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 this week to explore regulations requiring cell phone providers to disguise towers located on county property.

Current county regulations require wireless operators to improve the appearance of towers located on private property but there are no laws governing public areas.

If approved, the new regulations would not affect existing towers.  There are currently construction requests for six towers by three phone providers pending before the county Public Works Agency.

Federal law requires counties and municipalities to allow the construction of utilities on public lands.

We will bring you more information as the situation develops.
