County Announces Retirement of Fire Chief
January 26, 2012
After 15 years running the agency, Ventura County Fire Department Chief Bob Roper will retire on March 30.
Roper said the department is in stable shape and that he wanted to spend more time with his family. Roper is also a Republican candidate for a position on the Ventura County Board of Supervisors. He said the retirement decision is not tied to his political ambitions.
Roper joined the department in 1978 and was appointed chief in 1997.
The Ventura County Board of Supervisors and County Executive Officer Mike Powers will appoint a search committee to select a replacement.
