Camarillo Man Killed at Train Station

August 26, 2010

A man whose mangled body was found at the Metrolink train station in Camarillo last night has been tentatively identified as a 24 year-old Camarillo resident.

Update Friday, August 27:
Investigators have released the name of the deceased, Arturo Hernandez, and have ruled the death a suicide.

Although the name is being withheld pending notification of the family, the Ventura County Medical Examiner said the death appeared to be instantaneous after the man climbed beneath an Amtrak train at the station.

Steve Kulm, a spokeman for Amtrak, told the Ventura County Star that several trains were stopped while investigators combed through the train tracks to determine a cause of death. The Amtrak train, which had 87 passengers on board, was eventually allowed to proceed.

Sgt. Harold Hanley of the Ventura County Sheriff said in a public statement investigators were reviewing surveillance video to help determine whether the train struck the man or whether the man committed suicide.
