Camarillo City Manager to Retire
August 30, 2010
After 11 years on the job, City Manager Jerry Bankston is happy to tell you his biggest regret.
“I wasn’t able to kick the state of California’s butt and stop them from taking money from us every year since 1991,” he said to the Ventura County Star.
Bankston, 65, will retire October 1. He is also passionate about Proposition 22, the Local Taxpayer, Public Safety and Transportation Protection Act, on the November ballot. “It will stop the state from raiding city coffers,” he said.
During his tenure, Camarillo experienced the opening of the Camarillo Premium Outlets and CSU Channel Islands.
Last year, Bankstron earned $233,809 in base salary and $260,851 in total compensation, including a $6,000 car allowance and more than $21,000 in city contributions toward his retirement and deferred compensation.
Bankston and his wife intend to remain in the Camarillo area. Assistant City Manager Bruce Fend will take over the position.
